Updating subscribers, spouses, and dependents

You can update a member's name, address, and other eligibility information all at the same time in the Update Member screen. You can get to this screen in three different ways:

The instructions here are for the last option. However, once at the update screen, the instructions are the same.

When you update certain subscriber information, such as Last Name and Eligibility Effective Date, you are given the option to apply these changes to the family members as well.
  1. Select the Update menu option.
  2. The Get Member Information screen appears. Enter a member ID in the Member ID field, then select Search. If more than one enrollment is found, the Member Composite screen appears. Select the enrollment you want to update.
  3. The Family Composite screen appears, displaying the subscriber and any members enrolled under that subscriber. Select Update for the member to be updated.
  4. The Update Member screen appears, displaying the member's current information. Modify the information as needed. (See Terminating a member and Reinstating a member below for more information on updating eligibility status.)
  5. Select Update. The Family Composite screen appears.

Terminating a member

You terminate a member's eligibility by changing the member's Eligibility Status to Inactive (or Dependent Enrollment Only, if the dependents remain covered but not the subscriber) and entering the termination date in the Eligibility Effective Date field. When you terminate a subscriber, any members under that subscriber are also terminated, with the same effective date.

In many cases, a member is not allowed to have a termination date earlier than the date of service on the last paid claim. If this is the case, the system will reset the termination date accordingly.

Reinstating a member

You reinstate a member's eligibility by changing the member's Eligibility Status to Active and entering the reinstatement date in the Eligibility Effective Date field. When a subscriber is reinstated, you have the option of reinstating dependents who were under that subscriber.
